Based on a real story, the low budget horror movie, The Conjuring has managed to put a few jitters in the Box-Office.
The film made from an estimated budget of around $20 million, with an R-rated certificate is the best horror movie of 2013 and arguably one of the best horror flicks till date. Where a number of big-budget A-starrer films flopped in the box, conjuring was the surprise package of the summer beating the likes of RIPD and the much awaited Disney’s animated Smurf’s 2.
It set a new record at the box office for an R-rated film with debut weekend box office earnings of a whopping $41.5 million. Overall, as of August 29th 2013, it has estimated gross sales of around $250 million, including both domestic and foreign markets. Courtesy boxofficemojo.com
Combined with some superb marketing efforts from Warner Bros, and some excellent direction from James Wan with some breathtaking music in the film, it was more than one bargained for.
The story of The Conjuring was really captivating and the fact that it was based on true events just made it more horrifying.
Scintillating performances from Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga, who played the real life Ghostbusters of the 80’s Ed and Lorraine Warren also just made the movie a must-watch.
We have seen a lot of horror movies in 2013, but The Conjuring manages to scare the hell out of the competition with its beautiful plot and amazing background music.
Personally, I am not really a huge fan of horror movies as almost all of them have failed miserably trying to deliver on the horror aspect. But The Conjuring has remarkably achieved that and after a couple of sleepless nights, I know now that this particular movie will be remembered for a long time.
